Virtual Tour

The Loyola School Library's purpose is to assist students in their academic work. To meet this goal, the library has over 3,000 volumes in all subject areas.

The Library uses an electronic card catalog system from Follett Software Company. The new system is available from all computers within Loyola School.

The reference collection includes general encyclopedias such as Encyclopedia Britannica and also specialized works in theology, science, art, music, and social studies. Some examples include the 19 volume New Catholic Encyclopedia, the 20 volume Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, the 7 volume Encyclopedia of Popular Music, The Scribner British Writers and American Writers series, and the 6 volume Encyclopedia of the Renaissance. The circulating collection features books in all subject areas and includes a growing fiction collection.

The library subscribes to over 40 periodicals, including daily delivery of The New York Times.

Additional full text titles are available through the ProQuest Online Database.

In addition to books and periodicals, the library owns 240 films. The film collection is rapidly expanding.

Loyola has subscriptions to several web accessible databases.

The databases listed below are available to Loyola students and faculty either at home or within Loyola School.

ProQuest Platinum delivers uncompromising coverage from more than 2,000 newspapers, magazines, journals, and reference works. ProQuest reference databases offer comprehensive publication collections, in both full-text and full page image, that meets a wide range of research demands. This also includes the new ProQuest Historical Newspapers Collection.

Students find the answers they need from more than 2,000 full-text and multimedia sources, and can access History Study Center and ProQuest Learning: Literature

Digital National Security Archive is the most comprehensive online collection available of significant primary documents central to US foreign and military policy since 1945.

Offers invaluable historical reference material that covers 14 centuries of history from ancient to modern, old world to new world.

Literature Online (LION) lets students find original works of literature, author biographies, and contemporary criticism in one integrated search.

Polling the Nations is the most comprehensive collection of public opinion, with information from not only in the United States but also more than 100 countries around the world. The database includes the full text of the questions and responses covering a broad range of issues.
