Academic Convocation Reception: The Academic Convocation Reception is held in Wallace Hall twice a year in September and February. It follows the Mass of the Holy Spirit and a ceremony in the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola during which academic honors are awarded to students for achievement in the prior semester. The entire school, faculty and administration are present. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend. The Committee members arrange for refreshments. Time frame: Planning two weeks before event, set-up, serve and clean-up on the day of the event.
Auction: Our annual auction, held in May, is the major event of the year. The Parents Association works together with the Advancement Office to organize this benefit. Participation on this committee is a great way to meet other parents and enjoy yourselves while supporting the school. The committee is large with responsibility divided among many capable individuals. Planning begins early in the school year. There are many ways to get involved: the journal, the decorations, the live auction, the silent auction. Time frame: Intermittent work throughout the school year with an increase shortly before the event and set-up the day prior to event.
Christmas Concert: The award winning Loyola Orchestra and Chorus perform in Wallace Hall, Church of St. Ignatius Loyola on an evening in December. The Parents Association committee organizes an international hors d’oeuvre buffet provided by the parents. It is a great way for our Loyola community to join together to celebrate the Christmas Season and to wish everyone a Merry Christmas! Time Frame: Approximately a week prior to the event, set-up and clean-up the evening of the event.
Family Day: Families, faculty and friends and sometimes alums join to celebrate the Loyola family and community on a Sunday in November. The day begins with a family Mass and is followed by good food, music, and games for one and all. You will meet parents and children from all classes. This committee organizes the food and frivolity. Time Frame: Planning begins in October, set-up, serve and clean-up day of the event.
Freshman Breakfast Following Overnight Retreat: Surprise your son or daughter with breakfast on the Saturday morning following their overnight retreat at school. This committee of freshman parents will arrange for food and serve breakfast in the commons. Time Frame: Planning a week before the retreat; set-up, serve and clean up the day of the breakfast.
Freshman Parents Cocktail Party: This event is a wonderful opportunity to meet parents in your child’s class. It usually takes place early in the school year and can be held in the school or at someone’s home. The Class Representatives organize with help from other class parents. Time Frame: Planning approximately two weeks before event, set-up and clean-up the day of the event.
Freshman/Sophomore Long Term College Planning Meeting: Mr. Hanley, Director of College Counseling, outlines the college process. Freshman Class Representatives arrange for and set-up light refreshments. Time Frame: Approximately one week before.
Graduation Reception: It is a Loyola tradition for the parents of the junior class to host a reception for the graduates, their families and guests. The reception takes place in Wallace Hall immediately following the commencement exercises. It is a great way for Junior parents to get a sneak preview of the excitement that is just one short year away for them. Time Frame: Planning approximately one month prior to graduation, set-up and clean-up day of the event.
Incoming Freshman Class Reception – a/k/a Class of 2011 Reception: Welcome the next class to Loyola. This event takes place first on an evening in February for all accepted students. Later, in May there is a reception for the students who have decided to attend Loyola. The Parents Association meets, greets and answers any questions the new families may have. Time Frame: Attend the evening of the event.
Information Nights: Share your love for Loyola and your knowledge of the school with families who come for a visit and tour. This is a perfect event for those who enjoy meeting people. Volunteers from the Parents Association welcome families and answer any questions they might have. Time Frame: The night of the event.
Junior Parents Cocktail Party: Renew friendships and catch up on what the children are up to. The date will be arranged by the Class Representatives. This event can be held in the school or at someone’s home. The Class Representatives organize with help from other class parents. Time Frame: Planning approximately two weeks before event, set-up and clean-up the day of the event.
Junior Parents College Night: Mr. Hanley, Director of College Counseling, discusses how to find the right college for your child and how to navigate the college admission process. Class Representatives arrange for and set-up light refreshments. Time Frame: Approximately one week before.
Junior Ring Day Reception: Ring Day, held on Ascension Thursday, is one of the most memorable events for the Junior Class. It is celebrated by an afternoon Mass in St. Ignatius Loyola Church. Volunteers, traditionally sophomore parents, organize and run the reception in the Loyola Gym following the ceremony. Time frame: Planning approximately a month before the event with set-up and clean-up on the day of the event.
New Parents Night: New parents to Loyola are invited to an evening program early in September to learn about the upcoming academic year, meet the administration and faculty. Traditionally, the Parents Association sponsors the reception and the sophomore class plans and serves refreshments. Time Frame: Planning the week before the event, hosting that evening including set-up and clean-up.
Parents Social: *New Event for 2006 - 2007 It’s time for parents to have fun together. Enthusiasm, creativity and high spirits required. This committee will decide a theme, plan, organize and set-up an evening of revelry. Time Frame: Planning fall; event winter.
Parents Retreat Day: Sister Jo-Ann Flora SND, Adult Faith Formation Director at Loyola, moderates a Lenten Retreat Day for Parents. It takes place on a Saturday during Lent. The Parents Association committee arranges for morning refreshments and lunch. Time Frame: Approximately one week before.
Pre-prom Reception: The junior class hosts a pre-prom party for the seniors and their parents in the Loyola gym. Committee members will plan and set up. Time Frame: Planning two weeks before prom and set-up day of the event.
Senior College Night/Class Party: Mr. Hanley, Director of College Counseling, discusses how to find the right college for your child and how to navigate the college admission process. Class Representatives arrange for and set-up light refreshments. Time Frame: Approximately one week before.
Seventh Grade Breakfast: Share your love for Loyola and your knowledge of the school with Seventh Grade families who want to learn more about Loyola. This is a perfect event for those who like to meet new people and represent our school to others. Volunteers from the Parents Association welcome families and answer any questions they might have. Time Frame: The day of the event which is held in the morning.
Skate Fest: On the first Friday evening in February, Wollman Rink in Central Park becomes the site of the Loyola Skate Fest. Students, their families and friends all join together for a beautiful evening in Central Park. Even if you are not a skater come and mingle with friends over a hot cocoa. Assist in the planning of the event including invitation and publicity and chaperoning that night. Time frame: Planning starts in November and finishes with the event.

Sports Night: Calling all Sports Fans! Come see your teams win! On a Friday afternoon and evening in January, Loyola hosts three back-to-back basketball games: Girls JV, Girls Varsity and Boys Varsity. Spirit runs high; our gym is filled with loud Loyola supporters and “the opposition fans.” The Parents Association committee arranges for refreshments for all teams and fans and sets-up in the Commons. Time Frame: Planning approximately two weeks before event, set-up and clean-up night of the event.

Theater Production Reception: The Loyola Players present two plays each year, one in the fall and one in the spring. It is great fun during intermission to nibble on some goodies and chat with families and fans of the stars. Generally, there are three performances. The Parents Association provides refreshments during intermission. Time Frame: Planning approximately one week before; two volunteers for each performance.
Volunteer Appreciation Party: We celebrate all of the parents and friends who help make the work of the Parents Association possible. Come as our guest. The Committee is the Parents Association Board. Time Frame: No work for you!!
