When Friday dawned gray and drizzly, Loyola students knew that their long-anticipated field day would be rained out. What they didn’t know was that their teachers had prepared for this contingency by planning an exciting day of games, activities, and events in the school building. There were volleyball games and relay races in the gym, basketball in the Jug Yard, cooking classes in the commons kitchen, an improv jam session in the music room, a dance contest in the Gannon theater, a hula-hoop contest, a film screening, board games, theater games, and even a karaoke machine. The day culminated with a high-noon volleyball showdown between the junior class and the faculty. After an hour of pulse-pounding play, the faculty emerged victorious. Students and faculty alike had a terrific time, and many were heard to say that field day was even better without the field.
