Loyola celebrated the beginning of a new school year on Friday, September 7, as students from all four years attended the first day of classes. The schedule provided for "Schola Brevis," a chance for each class to meet briefly for purposes of orientation. Later that morning, faculty, students, parents and family members attended the Mass of the Holy Spirit at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola, followed immediately by the Academic Convocation honoring the achievements of the second semester last year. Loyola seniors who are participating in the Peer Leadership Program were also recognized for their service, and a group of 13 seniors was inducted into the National Honor Society. Dr. Matthew Bolton, Dean of Academics, delivered the address to the school and focused on the ways in which "reflection," one of the hallmarks of Jesuit education, is an important component of all learning. The text of Dr. Bolton's remarks can be accessed on the home page of Loyola's web site. Thanks to the Parents Association, everyone present enjoyed the reception in Wallace Hall following the ceremonies.
