For the sixth consecutive year, Loyola School’s Outdoors Club sponsored a ski and snowboarding trip out West during the Presidents’ holiday weekend. This year’s excursion encompassed four days of skiing and riding (February 12-17) at the renowned resort at Big Sky, Montana.
Our group of twelve students and three chaperones lodged in a six bedroom home, sharing all meals together and telling stories around the fireplace; students practiced their culinary skills by preparing dinner and honed their sandwich-making abilities as we packed lunch each day for the mountain.
One of the skiing and riding highlights of the trip was taking on the expert-only terrain at Big Sky’s famous Lone Peak. At over 11, 100 feet and with views of three states, Lone Peak is one of the highest skiable bowls in the United States. The group tackled the challenge of this steep slope and its several feet of powder with confidence and finesse, ascending several thousand feet at a vigorous pace.
Special thanks to those students and chaperones who helped to make this experience an incredibly memorable one. The Outdoors Club sends a special note of gratitude to members from the senior class; your commitment and assistance to the program all these years will never be forgotten.
