On December 19th, 25 Loyola freshmen and sophomores, accompanied by 4 senior leaders and 5 faculty members, braved a snowy afternoon and ventured downtown to Union Square in order to start their Christmas breaks with a 24-hour service experience.  They spent the evening preparing and serving food at a homeless shelter, while playing cards and board games and sharing stories with the shelter's guests.  The students then had the opportunity to reflect upon their evening in a large group before falling asleep on the floor of the Friends Meeting House.  They awoke the following morning, split into small groups, and spent the second day at several different food kitchens throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn.  More reflective activity followed before the group safely returned to Loyola in the evening.  The trip was a great reminder of the call to faith and service during the Christmas season!
