The Loyola community is fortunate to have two worship spaces available for liturgy—St. Ignatius Loyola Church and the student chapel in the School where Mass is celebrated before school daily. All members of the school community are invited to attend the daily Mass, and on a periodic basis mentor groups attend Mass together followed by a mentor group breakfast. Seven times during the academic year the entire school gathers for Mass in St. Ignatius Church. Students participate in the planning of these Masses, and serve as the lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, cantors, and altar servers. The students who serve as Eucharistic Ministers are commissioned at the Thanksgiving liturgy.
During Advent and during Lent, the school community comes together for reconciliation services which include the opportunity for individual confession. The chaplain and other priests on staff are available at other times on an individual basis to administer the sacrament of reconciliation.
In November, juniors and seniors are invited to participate in the Ignatian Family Teach-in, in Columbus, Georgia. The Teach-in challenges participants to increase their awareness of and commitment to issues of social justice. In addition to listening to the assembled speakers, Teach-in participants come together for liturgy, and for a prayer vigil commemorating the Jesuit martyrs of El Salvador, and others killed in the pursuit of a more just society.
